Program Purpose
Two of the most debated issues in America today are health care reform and the state of the economy. It is therefore not difficult to understand that with a fragile economy and escalating health care costs, Americans at every level and all those who have a stake in health care reform and economic recovery must join in the journey to workable solutions for our families.
Considering the long list of prevalent health challenges compound by the socioeconomic health disparities in poor communities and among individuals and families with poor health eating habits, Health Education Awareness Drive, (H.E.A.D.) is a campaign that collaborates with New York area churches to provide seminars, workshops Information and general resources that will lead to better healthcare and an improved quality of life. Using a diversity of media formats and outlets, and working in collaboration with community stakeholders and hundreds of local churches to drive the information, H.E.A.D. with various groups, not-for-profits and community organizations that are eager to share information and needed resources with local communities, Leading stalwarts of the system and great stewards of quality healthcare and meaning reform must play key roles So that in the end, quality healthcare will be accessible and affordable.
Diabetes has been intricately link to obesity in children and adults alike, especially children in the under-served communities where proper education on nutrition is grossly absent. H.E.A.D. focuses and thrust in this area is to educate students, adults, and young children within the African American and Caribbean community. As a conduit, the H.E.A.D. program will use psycho-therapeutic and counseling treatment to combat the self-destructive eating challenges that exist with the youth and adult population. This will in turn help thwart the onslaught of diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and obesity that is crippling our younger generation.

HEAD WEEK is an intense marketing and awareness campaign that is specifically designed to inform and influence Central Brooklyn community in the areas of financial education, health education awareness and business empowerment. Utilizing every vehicle of communication that is available, HEAD WEEK will execute a campaign that connects with the broad demography within the African- Caribbean-Latino-American communities that will culminate with a well-publicized week of activities and a Health Conference , incorporating a wide cross-section of participants - corporations, churches, government agencies, civic organizations, media, schools and other institutions with interest.
GOAL
To maximize economic, health and socio-medical knowledge, this will serve to increase productivity and a broader engagement among Blacks, Latinos and other underrepresented populations in the NYC Metropolitan area.
OBJECTIVES
1. To raise general awareness regarding socio-medical matters and increase the level of chronic illness self-management within the cultural diaspora of the African- and Caribbean-American communities.
2. To develop a therapeutic curriculum and health resource outreach program that will be tailored to the specific demographics as well as the age, religion, ethnic and gender diversity that will communicate with the broadest possible cross-section within this community.
3. Create forums and avenues of communication that will harness the scattered energy and dormant power in the community, and work to engage youth, children and families in health alternatives, lifestyle growth and development, nutritional counseling.
